Love sports and fitness? This program can help turn that passion into a meaningful career in health, wellness, and athletic performance. The applied fitness and sports performance degree prepares students for roles in strength and conditioning, personal training, wellness coaching, and sports performance—areas where you can make a real difference in people’s lives.
Designed for students who plan to enter the workforce immediately after graduation, the program focuses on practical skills, professional development, and hands-on learning. By the end of the program, students are prepared to sit for industry certifications through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), including:
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
- Certified Personal Trainer (CPT)
- Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP)
Alongside exercise science and coaching, you'll develop skills in sports nutrition and client communication—key tools for guiding individuals and teams toward improved performance, healthier lifestyles, and long-term well-being.
Your courses support flexibility and exploration, with options that allow you to shape your experience based on personal interests and goals. Expect active learning, small class collaboration, mentoring, and real-world experience in lab settings and peer interaction.
You'll graduate with a solid foundation in training, nutrition, coaching techniques, and community health—prepared to foster holistic self-care and optimize client performance at any level. You'll be ready to work with athletic teams of all levels, local gyms, or individual clients. You also will be equipped to support personal or athletic development, reduce health risks, and help others thrive.
