Adam Culiver, PT, DPT, Ph.D. is the rehabilitation services residency manager for IU Health and clinical assistant professor in IU's physical therapy program. His areas of interest include motor control, biomechanics, and rehabilitation for sports related injuries. Culiver’s research evaluates the neurologic substrates of motor control after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and in individuals with repetitive head impact exposure.
Prior to beginning his appointment as faculty in IU’s physical therapy department, Culiver received his Ph.D. in 2023 and completed post-doctoral fellowship training in 2025 at The Ohio State University.
Culiver was awarded the International Journal of Sports Physical Therapy best original research award of 2023 for his work identifying a neurologic signature associated with sport specific biomechanics after ACLR. He has twice been awarded the Ohio Physical Therapy Association Research Award and recently received grant funding through the Department of Defense.
Culiver graduated from the University of Evansville in 2013 with his B.S. in exercise science and in 2015 with his Doctor of Physical Therapy. He completed sports residency training at Texas Health Sports Medicine in 2016 and became a board-certified specialist in sports physical therapy in 2017.
Culiver’s IU Health role will involve developing physical therapy residency programs for cardiovascular and pulmonary, neurology, and wound management areas of specialization. Developing these programs will involve curriculum development and accreditation through the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education.
