Mona Mirehie, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Tourism, Event and Sport Management. Mirehie's area of expertise is sport tourism. Her work is cross- and inter-disciplinary as she examines sport tourism from a sociological and/or positive psychological perspective.
Prior to her appointment as a faculty at the School of Health & Human Sciences, Mirehie worked as a course instructor at the University of Florida and Allameh Tabataba'i University. Before that, she worked in the tourism industry as a vacation planner and sales representative, human resource coordinator, and travel consultant.
Mirehie graduated from Allameh Tabataba'i University with a bachelor's degree in tourism management and received her master's degree in tourism marketing management from Semnan University. She earned her doctorate in health and human performance with a focus on sport tourism, along with a doctoral minor in sociology and a certificate in women's studies from the University of Florida.
Mirehie investigates how social identifiers shape humans’ sport and/or travel experiences, and how such experiences contribute to their overall sense of wellbeing. The overarching purpose of her research is to provide information that help with establishing equitable access, securing continued participation, and sustaining the sport tourism industry.
She is an active member of several professional organizations including The Academy of Leisure Sciences (TALS) and the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM).
