Movement with purpose: turn your passion for sports and exercise into a life-changing career

Do you love sports, wellness, and making a difference in people’s lives? At IU Indianapolis, our kinesiology programs are built for students who are passionate about health, performance, and helping others reach their full potential.

Whether you’re curious about the science behind exercise, excited to boost others' athletic performance, or preparing for a career in health or fitness, our programs offer the ideal mix of cutting-edge science and hands-on experience to launch your future.

Degrees that move you—literally

Combining knowledge of biology, nutrition, anatomy, physiology, and wellness will give you a complete understanding of human movement (the study of kinesiology)—and how to apply that knowledge as a teacher, sports nutritionist or coach, personal trainer, wellness coach, cardiac rehabilitation specialist, and more right out of school. You’ll continue to enjoy the sports and activities you loved growing up, moving to the next level while helping others live their best lives.

If athletic training or research is on your radar, or becoming a physical or occupational therapist, doctor, physician assistant, or other medical professional, you’ll be prepped to apply to advanced degree or professional health programs during your senior year.

Learn by doing—every step of the way

At IU Indianapolis, learning is so much more than sitting in a classroom. It also happens by doing. You’ll gain hands-on experience, conduct fitness testing, help others achieve their wellness and performance goals, and work closely with faculty and peers committed to active, immersive learning and movement.

The campus sits at the heart of one of the most dynamic and opportunity-rich cities for sports and health professionals. You'll benefit from close ties to the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), nationally recognized fitness centers, alumni-run businesses, and a thriving network of sports performance organizations—all right here in Indianapolis.

Before you graduate, you’ll have the chance to work with real clients, develop professional skills through internships, and engage with our strong network of community partners—including local hospitals, sports performance clubs, and fitness centers across Indianapolis.

Focusing on yourself while you are here is important, too. A student membership to the National Institute of Fitness and Sports, filled with state-of-the-art equipment and a variety of group fitness options, is included with your campus recreation fees. You'll be able to meet your own goals while learning to help others meet theirs at the same time.

Ready to move forward? Explore how IU Indianapolis kinesiology faculty and programs can help you build a career that makes a lasting impact—on yourself and others.
