To meet your degree requirements in the tourism major, you'll need to successfully complete 120 credit hours of courses. Degree-specific courses required by all tourism, event, and sport management (TESM) students will generally be completed during your first two years. You will take courses specific to your major and the business foundations certificate throughout your studies at IU Indianapolis. Other degree requirements include electives and general education courses. The flexibility to earn up to 15 credit hours for current or previous professional experiences is available. Once finished, you'll graduate with a B.S. in Tourism, Event, and Sport Management.

As a TESM student, you will take a set of core courses (27 credit hours), with classes in areas such as:

Business foundations certificate
Along the way, you will earn a business foundations certificate from the Kelley School of Business. This 21-credit-hour certificate will help you understand business operations, with classes in areas such as:
- human resources
- accounting
- finance
- marketing
- business operations
Hospitality courses
For your hospitality courses, you'll take 24 credit hours of classes in areas such as:
- lodging management
- food and beverage operations
- alcohol management
- revenue and finance
- risk management
- strategic management
- entrepreneurship
- catering
- conferences and conventions
- food and alcohol pairing
General IU courses
All IU Indianapolis undergraduate students are required to take 30 credit hours (ten courses) of general education. Courses will teach you life and social skills including analytical reasoning, communication, cultural understanding, life and physical sciences, arts and humanities, and social sciences. These courses teach you how to think critically, provide you with skills to work with others, and grow your knowledge beyond your major.
Create possibilities through electives and concentrations
The plan of study is designed to help you grow your expertise and career potential by adding a second major, choosing minors, or simply studying courses that interest you. You'll need to add 18 credit hours to complete your B.S. degree requirements in hospitality.
Double major
By adding additional courses in one of the other majors, you can double major in sport management, tourism, or event management.
Minor or certificate
TESM offers several certificates and minors for you to choose from. Or, you can complete your requirements through electives available from other IU Indianapolis programs or schools.
Credit for prior work experience
The option to obtain credit for your prior work experience is available. Up to 15 credit hours, the equivalent of a semester, can be awarded for work you have done or are currently doing. Students complete written coursework to demonstrate prior learning tied to program learning outcomes. Talk with an SHHS advisor to learn more.
